‘Writing Your Way Out’ Graduation Ceremony

Thursday, December 6, 2018
5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Academic Learning Center, Room 2201

This is a very special graduation ceremony for people who were given a second chance: instead of incarceration, ten low-level offenders in Richmond were diverted to campus to join Writing Your Way Out: A Criminal Justice Diversion Program, a partnership between VCU, The Richmond Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, and the Greater Richmond Bar Foundation. There they joined Dr. David Coogan and Mr. Kelvin Belton (authors of Writing Our Way Out: Memoirs from Jail), and ten VCU students taking English 366: Writing and Social Change. At this event, we will celebrate their successful completion of the program and journeys into a better life through writing.
