Dr. Tombes Accepts New Role

From Interim Dean Alison Baski:

Dr. Robert Tombes has served as the Associate Dean for Research since 2012 and is a Professor in the Biology department.  In his current role, Dr. Tombes has supported inter-disciplinary research initiatives, spearheaded grant writing academies, and helped increase the research portfolio of the College by more than 50%. As Interim Executive Associate Dean, Dr. Tombes will also have academic oversight of the more than 20 graduate programs in the College, assist with faculty recruitment, and advise on budget and space matters in the College. Dr. Tombes has authored nearly 50 journal articles on the developmental biochemistry of vertebrates and has received funding from the National Science Foundation and private foundations. He has trained over 70 students in his research laboratory, including 20 graduate students, and directed the Integrative Life Sciences doctoral program at VCU for 7 years. I am so pleased that Dr. Tombes has agreed to expand his role in the dean’s office during this next year.
