From Interim Dean Alison Baski:
Dr. Katherine Bassard is a Professor of English and has chaired the department since 2012. She has served on numerous committees for the College of H&S, including chair of Graduate Academic Committee (2008-10) and as Dean’s Fellow (2010-11). In her new role as Interim Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, Dr. Bassard will manage new faculty mentoring and development, the promotion & tenure process, and faculty leave requests; will oversee the College award process and help prepare faculty nominations for competitive awards both within and outside the university; and will assist with faculty recruitment and advise on budget matters in the College. Dr. Bassard is a 2015 graduate of HERS Wellesley Leadership Institute, a program for women leaders in Higher Education. She is the author of two books and numerous articles on African American literature and black women writers. Dr. Bassard’s research is located at the intersection of race and gender studies, religious studies, and early African American literature and culture. Her recent archival and critical work has been on the contemporary neoslave narrative and the writings of nineteenth-century African American preacher Peter Randolph. I am pleased to welcome Kathy to her new role in the Dean’s office.
