The College of Humanities and Sciences is pleased to invite applications for Dean’s Fellows. Fellows will be engaged in a variety of leadership activities in the College and on campus, participating collaboratively as active members of the Dean’s leadership team in the Dean’s Office, contributing to team meetings, bringing important perspectives from the faculty, and assisting with initiatives and critical activities in the College.
When diverse voices and perspectives are represented within the College’s leadership, we advance our mission. Pursuing the goal of excellence through diversity, the Dean’s Fellows program will develop, prepare, and advance faculty as academic leaders. Because leadership development may require a substantial time commitment depending on the candidate’s administrative interests, Fellows should be tenured or promoted non-tenure-eligible (term) faculty with a minimum of four consecutive years’ service in the College and under contract through January 2020. Applications are encouraged especially from underrepresented faculty and faculty considering leadership positions in their unit, the College, and VCU. Each Fellow must possess strong interpersonal, team, written, timeliness, and verbal communication skills, in addition to demonstrated experience or commitment to working to serve and foster a success-oriented and diverse faculty, staff, and student environment as a faculty member at VCU.
Each position will be a paid faculty fellowship for one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year. Compensation will be in the form of a course release negotiated with their unit’s Chair or Director or in the form of a $4000 supplement, with summer salary where appropriate. The Fellow’s duties will be divided between their academic department and the Dean’s Office.
Applications should be forwarded to firstname.lastname@example.org. To apply, please submit a curriculum vitae, and a maximum two-page letter explaining your administrative experience (including an initiative or an area of interest you would like to pursue), scholarship, teaching and service interests, other qualifications for the position, and how this experience will facilitate your long-term leadership and career aspiration in academia. Also provide the names and contact information of two references, one of which must be your department chair or immediate supervisor, by November 2, 2018. Selected applicants will be notified by December 3, 2018 with the fellowship to begin in January 2019.
