Dean Fuentes is pleased to announce the appointment of two Dean’s Fellows, Sarah Golding, Instructor and Director of Undergraduate Research in the Department of Biology, and Meredith Katz, Instructor and Internship Coordinator in the Department of Sociology.
Sarah will be working under the mentorship of Associate Dean for Research Scott Gronert on initiatives related to expanding research and experiential learning opportunities across the College. She will be assessing the College’s current opportunities and capacity for experiential learning as well as seeking new opportunities via internships and related off-campus activities. Sarah received her Ph.D. from the University of the West of England, Bristol, United Kingdom. She is “eager to learn how things work at the Dean’s Office level to explore how I can widen my impact on research activities at VCU.”
Meredith will be working to coordinate the process of developing a new strategic plan for the College under the mentorship of Associate Dean for Graduate Affairs Ed Acevedo, in addition to promoting faculty well-being and faculty professional development. Meredith has a Ph.D. in Sociology from Virginia Tech.
“I am very excited about the chance to help advance the strategic goals of the College of Humanities and Sciences as a Dean’s Fellow. As a term faculty member, I am particularly motivated by the possibility of addressing the needs and expectations of the growing number of contingent faculty at VCU, many of whom are women and/or belong to underrepresented groups.”
Dean Fuentes adds, “We are delighted to welcome Sarah and Meredith to the Dean’s office, helping us to enhance our experiential learning and research initiatives, while promoting strategic thinking and initiatives to help the College excel. The Dean’s Fellows initiative will help us cultivate our next generation of academic leaders.”
Congratulations to Meredith and Sarah on becoming Dean’s Fellows!
