College Welcomes New Director of HR

Michael Dixon joins the College of Humanities and Sciences from the County of Henrico where he worked in the Department of Human Resources, as the manager of Employment and Compensation Services (ECS). Overseeing ECS, Michael managed the County’s employment and recruitment activities which included applicant screening and interviewing, the new employee orientation process, and managing the County’s unified compensation plan and classification structure. Prior to joining Henrico County, Michael worked with the Virginia Community College System in the Professional Development Office. He oversaw program management, administration, evaluation, and the design of a robust professional and organizational development program for the 23 colleges across the Commonwealth of Virginia. Additional experience includes Bryant & Stratton College, The Martin Agency and the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

The Director of Human Resources is a key member of the Dean’s administrative team and is responsible for the human resources initiatives in the CHS. In this role, Michael will provide guidance on a myriad of employment, personnel, and compliance issues, and will promote an inclusive and rewarding work environment. Additionally, Michael will consult with other university offices, such as the Office of the Provost, Equity and Diversity, and University Counsel, etc. Michael will also be responsible for the management of the budget for professional development.
