In October, the College of Humanities and Sciences hosted three receptions for alumni and friends to welcome the new dean,
Montse Fuentes, Ph.D. Remarks by Dean Fuentes welcomed alumni, faculty and friends, shared a bit about her vision for the College and celebrated the launch of the unit’s largest fundraising campaign to date.
Excerpts from remarks by Dean Fuentes:
One of the great pleasures I’ve had since joining VCU is meeting alumni of the College of Humanities and Sciences, and hearing about your accomplishments. I am always pleased when I have the opportunity to learn how the education and life experience gained by our alumni while at VCU has helped them in their lives and careers. Events like this provide me with an opportunity to become better acquainted with the VCU community and gain a better perspective on how the decisions we make today will impact the future lives and careers of our current students.
I hope at tonight’s event you are able to reconnect with your department, and perhaps some of your classmates and former faculty. I know as the former chair of the department how gratifying it is to hear from former students. As was mentioned a few moments ago, we are in the middle of our largest capital campaign ever, but we don’t want you to feel that this is the only time you hear from us. We want to stay connected with our alumni, and we want you to feel connected with your school or department, with the College and with VCU.
Thank you again for being here, and I look forward to speaking with as many of you as possible tonight.
