Class notes June 2017



Isabel Dowrick** (B.A.’74/H&S; M.Ed.’92/E) has mostly retired from her work at the University of Richmond as head of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. She works part time for the READ Center teaching adults who want to improve their reading skills. She also is a volunteer mentor for Education for Ministry, a study program of the University of the South – Sewanee, and serves as the coordinator for EfM for the Diocese of Virginia.


Jamie Olson** (B.S.’84/H&S) is a clinical specialist/intensive foster care and clinical services manager at the South Carolina Department of Social Services.


Clary Carleton (Cert.’98/E; M.A.’98/H&S) was named Richmond Public School’s 2017 Teacher of the Year. Carleton has been an English teacher at Open High School in Richmond, Va., since 1999.

Patricia Crocker** (M.S.’95/H&S) retired after 34 years of teaching math. She most recently was an associate professor of mathematics at Richard Bland College in Petersburg, Va., where she worked for 11 years.


Rebecca Moon Ruark (B.A.’00/H&S; M.F.A.’04/H&S) wrote short fiction that appears in the spring 2017 issues of Sou’wester and DASH Literary Journal.


Gonzalo Aida (B.A.’11/H&S) began working for NASCAR and International Speedway Corp. in October 2016 in the organization’s public and government affairs department.

Ashley Rivera (B.S.’16/H&S; B.S.’16/GPA) started a new position as an eDiscovery Technician in the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the Office of the Virginia Attorney General.


Katie Bowman (M.S.’16/H&S) married Alvin Palmer on October 16, 2016, and is enrolled in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Lynchburg College in Virginia.

Veronica McKinney** (B.A.’97/H&S) married George Collins in September 2016. The couple lives in Seattle, where she works for the Renton School District.


Chelsea Greer, Ph.D. (M.S.’11/H&S; Ph.D.’14/H&S), and her husband welcomed their second daughter, Coralynn Juanita, in February 2017. Her big sister, Cece, is happy in her new role. Greer spent this past year working as the director of counseling services in the Wellness Center at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala., and is returning to full-time teaching in the 2017-18 academic year.
